My creative space... embracing the green

Time for a quilting update in my creative space today. The greener-than-green quilt from a few weeks ago is regressing nicely. Yes, that's a seam-ripper... and yes, that's me sticking my feet up defiantly on the pile of green blocks, meaning that I will have to press them YET AGAIN but, given that I have to remeasure and re-sash them anyway, why not?

There are about half a dozen other quilting ideas sitting around in my head, and I'm just itching to begin one. I keep pulling out scraps and lengths of fabric, doodling on paper, browsing the web for ideas... but I have decided that I must. not. start. any other machine-sewn quilt until I have followed through on this one.

So I'm trying to embrace the green. Truth be told, I've always maintained that green is my favourite colour. How that can be true when I rarely wear it and don't surround myself with it, I don't know, but it is. Green is so... err... verdant, I guess!

A bonus from all the unpickery that's going on is that one little not-square-enough square was set free from quilting doom and transformed into a pocket on a new pinny I made for myself:

Rachel, you may recognise this fruity material as one of the thrifted tablecloths you so sweetly sent me last year! It's gorgeous, soft and already liberally spattered, like a good apron should be. And just green enough.

  3. LOVE IT!! The green pocket & the whole green quilt, awesome. Thanks for the comment on my housewife post too - sometimes you're in your own world wondering who else is out there?? Back to those year 3 Olympic assignments - they are going to be quite the winners (i take school projects very personally & seriously) with screen printed flags & the whole catostrophe!! Love Posie

I have never seen any like them in my life! Especially not in lil' ol' tassie!
If they were mine they would never be permitted to leave my feet!
Oh and I do like what's going on with the quilt - green is lovely and restful. and what a gorgeous pinny - love the apples and pears!

  8. Oh dear. This is not the post of a happy quilter! What's holding you back? Why all the unpicking?

Maybe you need an all day sewing lockdown with um, I don't know? Maybe a couple of crafty friends? I'm sure that would help!

  9. Embracing the inner procrastinate, more like. Don't think I can't recognise the symptoms. 'Tis a nice pocket, though.

Oh, and if you ask me, crafty sewing lockdown sounds the only way this one's going to happen. Snigger.

  11. ditto to loving those shoes! I love green too, it was my grandmas favorite colour and it reminds me of her. If she could get it green, paint it green or make it somehow more green then she would!

  15. Oh nice pocket lady! And I love your resolve to not start another quilt till this one is done. Good for you! Though I see nothing wrong with perhaps doing a pull of fabrics for the new one .... ;)

Oh and I'm like you on the favourite colour thing only insert "purple" into the favourite colour space.

  20. Who doesn't love the unpicker, I have broken 2 just from over use. I think this is going to look amazing once it is finished. I know what you mean with too many ideas and not enough time, does my head in on a daily basis.

  25. Good luck with the re-work... watching much winter olympics as you unpick???
Could be worse I suppose - you could have crashed out with the whole world watching metres from the finish line @ over 100kms an hour to miss out on a silver medal.
If it gets too frustrating perhaps you could think of the cross country skier who broke her ribs falling 10feet in training only to soldier on to win a bronze medal the very same day!!!

  26. Lovely shoes. Green is good. It is rather a lot of green all at once, isn't it! But quilts often look a blah when they're still in pieces, so once it comes together you might decide it's actually quite marvelous!

  27. Between the pinny and the shoes you are a picture of delight. I am sure the green quilt will come together. Perhaps it's going to be an homage to a very green year ahead. I love the shade- and perfect for the pocket too. Keep up the good regressive work. haha. xo m.

  28. Oh dear, I love all your green, beautiful, deep mossy green, yum. And those shoes are just waaaay too cute, such a distraction.

  29. I love green best too. I think we are drawn to colours we need in our lives. I reckon if you have to be unpicking and reworking a quilt, its probably a good thing that its a lovely tranquil sea of green!

  30. the green is ace but the shoes are acer. the apron with it's fruity fruit and greener than green pocket is a work of art. way to posh to be called a pinny

  31. Snap! I used that exact green paisley in my nephew's baby quilt. Your shoes further demonstrate your exceptional taste! http://maaidesign.blogspot.com/2009/11/rubes-and-rgb-quilt.html
