Done.

I've been migraine-plagued and a bit blue these last few days, but nonetheless I pressed on with making the 24 little linen-and-pillowcase bags for my advent bunting.

Handsewing each one closed was quite soothing. I'm growing to love hand-stitching.

I've left them unnumbered. Perhaps I'll stitch or stamp some numbers on next December -  If I haven't decided to use the sweet little bags for something else by then.

I've also patched together the left-over pillowcase material onto some calico.  It was sitting there looking lonely and unloved. I'm not sure what this log-cabin-esque piece is destined for, but the process was very satisfying, sewing down one scrap after another onto the calico without thinking too much. All of the material is so soft and worn, I felt like laying my own head down and having a sleep...

And now, I'm going to disappear back into the headache haze, lying on the couch grateful for the
soothing sound of heavy rain, and silence from the boys' bedroom...

  1. DAMNATION! Can't stand those suckers that hit you right between the eyeballs (or thereabouts). Hope you're feeling much spiffier by the morning and readying to come over all adventy and festive-like. The kids are going to LOVE 'em.

  2. They are just absolutely lovely, and very serene looking hanging from the bookcase.
Maybe that lovely scrap log cabin could become a cushion cover for the couch so that you can actually rest your head?

  17. What a beautiful string of loveliness for your Advent. I'm imaging them with special fairy stones, or buttons or a perfect handful of beads to string into a necklace and similar treasures for your Advent days. Hoping they are headache free, but still nice and quiet!
    take care and rest well.

  19. What a gorgeous idea. I've been trying to think of a different advent "calendar" to make and use year-to-year with the grandies, and yours is just lovely. I love the way you used the scraps and I'm sure you're going to make something beautiful with the pillow-case-scrap-clad calico. Hope your head is much better today.

  20. what about... pouches to hold seeds in as gifts for some kind of celebration in the year... you could even make up a family tradition... or you could use them as gratitude pouches and keep them in a box and when someone feels like giving a little handmade gift or card or something to another member of the family they put it in the pouch and hang it on their door or put it under their pillowcase to discover in the morning... just a thought. xo m.

  22. Sorry to hear you've been feeling lousy Gina, I hope things pick up soon. Headaches and the blues suck. The vintage pillowcases look awesome lining the advent bags, and in the cushion.

  27. You poor thing, hope the nasty blues have dissapeared with the weather. And the sunshine has brought happiness along with it. Your calendar is gorgeous. Put some numbers on those lovingly hand sewn bags and keep them for all the years to come. Then you can look back and enjoy them year after year. I think they are fabulous! (just like you...)
