My creative space...

I feel like there has been a bit of a creative lull at clutterpunk central, but yesterday whilst wandering around in the spring sunshine with my boys, a refashioning puzzle popped into my head. So when I got home I made a start on transforming THIS:

Into THIS:

I bought it at the op-shop for my husband but it's too big, so mine to play with! So far I have cut the arms and collar off, sewn up the arm holes and folded the top down to make a kind of yoke. I thought I'd keep the buttons down the front but it seems to sit nicely back-to-front like this.

All this was done with the boys rampaging so there was no measuring or pinning, I just sewed along existing lines and did the eyeball-measuring thing. Here's how I was repaid for my inattention:

Well... at least they like books :-)

I plan to let a similar attrocity occur later today so that I can keep working on the skirt. I have to finish the waistband and sideseams 'properly'. Then I'm thinking about some red rick-rack trim, maybe some pockets made from the sleeves... oh, the possibilities.
More creative spaces at Kirsty's.

  4. Looks fab! So clever. My kids pull all the books off the shelf as soon as I put them on - maybe there is a lesson in there somewhere...

  12. I love it. I wonder what the boys will get up to when you continue?

  13. Sometimes the messes they make are so worth it if it keeps them occupied! When they decide to throw all the clean folded clothes out of their dressers down the stairs to "slide down," so not worth it! Yet we love them anyway!

  14. I just LOVE this skirt so much - especially the way it's shaped at the top. Definitely pockets and red rick-rack, it's my fave colour. I'm going to need to raid hubby's shirt supply now...

So super duper clever. Looks amazing. I'm in awe of your brilliance.
The pic of your bubbas with all the books on the floor is an all too familiar sight at our place too... post-post-modern literacy?!?!

  24. This is fantastic. I have no patience or intelligence for sewing clothes... it's so rare that I actually end up wearing something I sew!

And yes, at least those boys like their books! It's better than them getting into the vegemite... that's what I used to do when Mum was absorbed in something creative!

  25. Ahh that last pic made me laugh out loud (and nearly wake The Little One)! You should see my studio. I've just resigned myself to NOT putting away all the buttons that she's tipped and thrown and fabric that has been unfolded... 'cause she'll just do it all again the next time I'm at the machine.

  26. If this is what happens when you get a little bit of Spring sunshine, I CAN'T wait to see what happens in Summer! And how great of your gorgeous boys to sort the books while Mummy sews! xx
