And now for something completely NOT local, seasonal, ethical, sustainable, fairtrade, frugal or healthy...

...but dang it was tasty!

Let's see if I can come up with something similarly appealing for my younger boy's birthday in September, but this time without completely dashing my conscience against the rocks.

Mmmm. Cake.

  1. Very Spectacular Cake! It may not be P.C. but it's a work of art and now you have the pics, it will go down in family history.
But Beware, you have set the bar very High.

  4. You realise you are in Such Big Trouble? You have gone and set a PRECEDENT. Now you have to top that twice a year until at least the 21st birthdays. Happy birthday excellent kid!

  9. Oh wow - it looks really fantastic! Its a 3 year old's dream. Doesn't he look happy there with his very special cake.

I'm with Tania on the precedent thing though. You shouldn't go out too early on the spectacular cakes (I did the merry-go-round for Argys first birthday ... maybe from the same book?? ... and its been all downhill from there!)

At least you have seven months for cake research up your sleeve!

  10. YAH for exceptions to the rule!!!! (We had take-away tonight because it was just too hot to even think about cooking!) It is indeed a most splendid cake and I'm so wanting to have some right now :) Good on you Gina. It's wonderful having an ethical belief but they are kids and that's what birthdays are for! That's what makes your cake even more special... memory-maker I say... photo should go straight to the pool room :) Kx

  17. It is so cute. I love the colored sticks that kind of look like logs. I also did a train cake for my 3 yr old. It was Thomas blue. We put animal crackers in some of the cars.

  18. Brilliant job! Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks the threaded coloured popcorn steam is worth skipping. I'm only planning to do two carriages because it's a very small non-party, but now that I've seen four I'm tempted to do the whole shebang...
