My creative space...

Playing around with a bit of applique, thread sketching and pears.... mmm, pears....

A set of serviettes, each one just a bit different. The green solid is scrap fabric from a quilt I'm making for my sister. I like that pop of green but actually I'm still pretty partial to the basic black-and-white scribble on the reverse side...

Now enough of my lame-o pears, if you want to check out the real thread sketching talent around these parts, please pop over here and salivate over Tara Badcock's work (thanks Lauren for pointing me in her direction). While you're at it go give Linguisticky lots of praise and adulation... she found my thread sketching tute via WhipUp and immediately took it to another level with THIS:

BAM! A continuous line drawing taken from a life drawing class and transformed into fabric art. LOVE IT. And I love the fact that a little tutorial from my blog has prompted a new burst of creativity for someone over the other side of the globe. That really gives me a kick.

Anyway, I'm grabbing a coffee and heading off to check out the explosion of creative spaces happening at Kootoyoo... see you there!

  1. I just love seeing the word "clutter" in your blog used as a good thing! I have always believed creative clutter was a good thing. I love recycled, restyled reworked or repurposed anything verses buying new, cheap and outsources items. I enjoyed my visit to your site and will surely stop by for a visit again.

  5. "Your pears are so lame-o" she says laughing SO AT you and not with you! Love the serviettes and love even more than they don't match.

As for you prompting new bursts of creativity all over the place, go on, tell me something I don't know!!! xxx

  6. G. You are a veritable illustrator-in-waiting. I don't care what you say. It's those little bits of detail that convince me it's not only the gorgeousness of thread sketching. You're just a bit of an 'inspire', Mrs!

  8. Cool pears (though I love the word lame-o, just not in relation to your pears), I like how each napkin is a bit different. I love the work that your tute inspired too! How does it feel to be an inspiration??

  9. Gina, those pears are amazing! You have a natural talent for putting lines in the right places. That probably sounds weird but it's a real talent to be able to sketch with such fluid line work let alone sew with it. You are truly inspirational.

  36. You're way too modest Gina. The pears look amazing! All your thread sketching has such lovely fluid lines - it looks like you picked up a pencil and little stitches fell out as you drew.

    More! More!

  37. I really wanted to embroider one of my life drawing drawings for the quilt project but didn't like how it looked handstitched... if only i had known the miracles of thread sketching beforehand! jess.

  42. Aha, now I get to see what all the fuss is about those pears! Very impressive indeed. I know what you mean about liking the backside, I recently did some hand embroidery for the centrepiece of my first ever quilt, and I much preferred the reverse side. Pity, but oh well. What a star you are with the thread stitching!
